Life in a Quiet Hurricane | Navigating Quarantine
Together Apart.
Hey friends!
Oof, this is some timeline we’ve slipped into, hey?
I do most of my updating through my Facebook and Instagram pages, but I did feel it was important to address everything going on through here. The truth is: I’m not entirely sure how I want to navigate photo sessions right now, beyond following everything national treasures Dr. Bonnie Henry and Dr. Theresa Tam recommend. That means I’m not booking any sessions - and postponing/rescheduling booked sessions until I’m given the go ahead to do them. So far I’m just taking things one day at a time, editing work, and building community over at the Recraft Community group. Come join me there!
I’m working on some online things and worksheets, but it’s taking time because hey, the world is going through it! This is a lot to take in, and we’re all navigating trauma right now - this is a friendly reminder from me to you to be gentle with yourselves. A lot of counsellors have moved services online if you’re needing to talk with someone. B.C.’s mental health hotline is 310-6789, which you can access for free. We are in this together, we don’t need to it alone. If you’re in Chilliwack and need a hand getting groceries, essentials, etc, visit CCFC Community Cares to be set up with help. (This service is for ANYONE having difficulty getting out of the house, from seniors, those under quarantine, new parents, or people experiencing anxiety that makes it difficult to go out. If you’re struggling, please use this service.)
Hope you’re all doing ok out there. I’ll update more soon, and I’ll be working on some things online for the next while - sending love out there to all of you.
Come As You Are Portrait Party | Chilliwack Photographer
Friends! I’m so excited to offer this limited time portrait package! I was thinking the other day of “Come as You Are” parties - these parties don’t seem to happen much anymore, but if you do some Internet digging you can find black and white vintage photos of people gathering in all kinds of dress, showing up in the middle of doing something. The goal was to just be there, arrive, be who you were - and I love how inclusive & spontaneous that idea is. Just show up. Be present. You’re welcome to be here, regardless of how you come. I also love how every gathering would then be different - the group that showed up and how they showed up would shift with every meet up (which also falls in line with why I love Recraft so much, too - the act of just showing up will always make a difference to a space, and that’s so beautiful.)
To celebrate my birthday next week, I’ve decided to throw a Come As You Are Portrait Party for the next little while and I really hope you’ll join me! Here’s how they work:
PACKAGE: Portrait Sessions are $100, and include 1 digital file. 5-15 minutes. 1 person. *Inquire for more than 1 person, or for travel beyond Chilliwack.
BOOK LAST MINUTE: These can happen fairly spontaneously. Have an idea Thursday morning? Reach out to me asap and we could potentially shoot in the afternoon. Payment is due once booking is confirmed.
ADD ONS: You get 1 file of your choice (if multiple files are available), but you can add on additional files for $25 each if you’d like to.
These are VERY different from full sessions (like family, portrait/headshot, or beauty sessions). They’re unconventional, collaborative, and quick - posing is done very lightly, and you don’t need to look at the camera - the goal is to get one photo that captures a feeling, narrative, creative concept without any extensive editing and focusing on one person. Always wanted a photo in your garden? A picture in front of your favourite blue wall? Your favourite bookshop? With your pet parrot? Want to wear a bathing suit in front of your vintage car while holding a unicorn pool toy? LET’S DO THIS! These sessions give room to creating movement, playing with focus, expressing emotion, thinking outside the box and exploring space.

Self Care for the Creative Workshop: MAKING SPACES
I am so excited to offer this workshop!
Book prior to February 25th, 2020 to receive $10 off your ticket. This workshop will be 2 hours long and explore how we engage with space-making + care for ourselves as we go. We will delve into themes of self-compassion and self-kindness, and both the physical and internal spaces we build to express our creative selves. The workshop will include time for art-making (the focus is on process + reflection, not on skill or outcome - all levels of creative are welcome), discussion + journalling.
We will be meeting at the Decades Coffee Club Grounds Room on Saturday March 7th, 1-3 p.m. Tickets are $55 (*$45 when purchased early) and spots are limited. For full details and to book, visit the event page.
Just a reminder: Flowers are coming
PS: I’ll be announcing a small Chilliwack local workshop for Recraft THIS WEEK! Details coming.
A halfheartedly updated record of all the things that make my heart sing + a celebration to all the rad people I get to create with
