Shannon & Lee | Chilliwack Portrait Photographer
Sessions are like 100% better when they happen in cozy, eclectic little houses and backyards with pea green vintage couches. Just a little bit after we started shooting outside, the weather changed quickly, and a huge thunderstorm hit. We moved inside Shannon & Lee's lovely little home for a lifestyle session, with books, Shannon's artwork, and a random pair of boxing gloves.
The Millions | Chilliwack Family Photographer
A short and sweet session that was interrupted by a TON of mosquitoes. So many mosquitoes. All the mosquitoes in Northern, B.C.
The night was ended with a little solstice party with sparklers!

It's Always Darkest Before Dawn
"Recently, I did a photo shoot that captured a time when I was at my absolute lowest, darkest, and what I thought was hopeless place that I felt in my life. This photo shoot, taken by the talented Sarah Sovereign Photography is one of transition, overcoming, and change. Years ago, I drew a portrait of myself covered in all the negatives words I've ever been called, words that I felt once labelled me; that I thought were words that defined me and who I was as a person. Those words came from people, trauma, and from my own worst critic: myself. Through the journey of overcoming and self exploration, I stumbled across my strength, my light, who I really was, and have learned to start to embrace the person I am and who I want to become. I have so many to thank for all the support and help I received though the difficult time I faced. My hope is to inspire, empower, and help anyone who is or has ever felt this way. No one has the right to define or overpower you, your past does not define, you the present does. You have the power to say that this is not how my story will end or be written.
Thank you so much Sarah for taking these photos and Aimee for assisting and being so brave and vulnerable with me! You are both incredible and strong women! Thank you for helping me tell my story. I could not have asked for anyone else through this therapeutic photo shoot." - Ashley Lord
A quick note: sessions like these can be incredibly raw, and difficult to do, and I would encourage anyone looking to explore stories of trauma, or triggering themes, to do so in conjunction with mental health resources. Work with someone you trust, and in a space you feel safe, and I would highly recommend discussing with your counsellor, therapist, or other mental health professional, at length beforehand. Take care of you, and please place your safety and care first.

The Next Big Adventure!
Kim contacted me about a sweet family session at her and her family's home before they moved away. I LOVE this idea - and what resulted was this lovely family session celebrating a place they had made a home, before they moved onto their next great adventure.
The Hawkins Family | Chilliwack Family Photographer
We took these at Fairfield Park, and it was maybe only my second time actually going here - I was little bit worried because a quick glance only showed bleachers and locked baseball diamonds. I didn't have to worry though, because OBVIOUSLY the Hawkins' Family showed up with all the style we needed.
(And also, Fairfield Park is now one of my favourite new places to shoot at!)
Matt runs In and Around Chilliwack, a local podcast (even I'm on it!) and does a ton of video work around town. In honour of his YouTube channel (check out all the things he loves about the 80s over here), I suggest you look through this gallery while the Goonies plays in the background.

So, my friend Georgia's husband makes adorable picnic tables. Add in some donuts, some edible glitter, and two adorable kiddos, and it's a full scale photo shoot where two kids ate like 6 donuts apiece. Worth it.
